Suspect linked to Mattapan massacre to be arraigned The lone suspect charged in connection with the grisly Mattapan massacre that left four people dead, including a toddler, and another man still clinging to life, is expected to be arraigned today under stepped-up security in Dorchester District Court, authorities said. Kimani Washington, 34, of Dorchester will be charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, unlawful possession of ammunition and receiving a stolen automobile, said Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley. Washington was captured Oct. 1 by members of theBoston Police Department Fugitive Apprehension team and U.S. Marshals at an apartment complex in Manchester, N.H. He waived extradition from the Granite State and was expected to return to Boston last night. Police said they are preparing for heightened security at Washington’s arraignment this morning. “We will be working with the court officers as well as the officers of that district to ensure a proper security plan is in place, given the high-profile nature of this arraignment,” said Boston Police spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll. Washington is the only person charged in connection with the Sept. 28 shooting deaths of Eyanna Louise Flonory, 21, and her son, Amani Smith, 2, Simba Martin, 21, and Levaughn Washum-Garrisson, 22. No one has yet been charged with murder in the case, which sent ripples of outrage throughout the city. Marcus Hurd, 32, also was shot and remains on life support at Beth Isreal Deaconess Medical Center. Police said they are prepared for loved ones from all five families to attend the arraignment. The district atorney’s office would not say whether more charges are pending against Washington. He was charged after police searched his home and discovered a duffle bag with
9 mm and .40-caliber handguns, police said. Washington, a father of four, has a history of arrests for gun charges, drug trafficking and domestic abuse.
