LECTURES
Tuesday, February 1st 2011
CHUCK D.
Best known as leader and co-founder of one of Hip-Hop’s most influential groups of all time, Chuck D redefined rap music and Hip-Hop culture with the release of Public Enemy’s explosive debut album "Yo Bum Rush the Show" in 1987.
He is the author of two critically acclaimed books, a political activist, publisher, radio host, and producer. His messages address weighty issues about race, rage, and inequality. Chuck D and Public Enemy were celebrated in the May 2004 issue of Rolling Stone magazine as one of the "50 most important performers in rock & roll history." In 2007, he was named one of the 100 Most Influential Black Americans by Ebony magazine.
Chuck D is also a national spokesperson for Rock the Vote, the National Urban League, and the National Alliance for African American Athletes. He has appeared in numerous public service announcements for national peace and the Partnership for a Drug Free America. As he continues to work on commentary, music, and writing on diversity, politics, rap, and technology, it is clear that there are few who have transcended music and have made an impact as loud as hip hop speaker Chuck D.

THEATRE

Wednesday, February 2nd - Sunday, February 6th 2011
Huntington Theatre Company presents
"RUINED"
The story of savvy business woman Mama Nadi who knows how to survive in the midst of the Congo civil war: don’t take sides. She sells beers and girls to any man who'll leave his gun at the door. The good-time atmosphere of the canteen and her sharp wits can’t always protect her and her girls, but their courage, humor, and hope live on in this gripping drama.
@ Boston University Theatre
264 Huntington Ave., Boston MA
For tickets and more info visit www.huntingtontheatre.org
Wednesday, February 2nd - Saturday, February 5th 2011
Company One presents
"NEIGHBORS"
One of the most controversial and brilliant plays of the season!
Have you seen the new neighbors? Richard Patterson is not happy. The family of black actors that has moved in next door is rowdy, tacky, shameless, and uncouth. And they are not just invading his neighborhood - they’re infiltrating his family, his sanity and his entirely post-racial lifestyle. This wildly theatrical, explosive play on race marks the major debut of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, member of NYC’s Public Theatre’s Emerging Writers Group. The play is directed by Summer Williams. Neighbors includes explicit language and sexual content and is inappropriate for children.
@ The Plaza Theatre
Boston Center for the Arts
539 Tremont St., Boston/South End
Wednesdays at 7:30pm (Wild Wednesdays - all tickets $18.00)
Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm
